Didn't even find a yellow-rumped, although some of the breeding species are in. The highlight was a large purple finch/goldfinch flock working the treetops along the swampy woods between the stream crossings (on the "north trail"). There were at least 25 purples, mostly female, and about as many goldfinches. No house finches mixed in. The birds were feeding on winged tree seeds. The best I could see, the winged seeds were green and round, unlike maples' oblong "helicopters." Rob and other plant experts, any ideas for the name of this tall tree? 49 species. Highlights: Osprey (1 flyover) Blue-headed Vireo (1) Warbling Vireo (1 seen singing in sycamores behind central playing fields) Orchard Oriole (1 heard from beginning of parking lot) house wren 2 Prairie Warbler (1 heard from Trolley Museum; 1 heard from Golf Course) Common Yellowthroat (6-8) Wood Thrush (1-2) Gray Catbird (just 1 so far...) I couldn't even scare up a field sparrow. May have briefly heard an indigo bunting. A very quiet morning.
