And close to it I heard the song of a Red-breasted Nuthatch. Many White-throated Sparrows are still around. A Green-backed Heron has been here for a few days. A Ruby-throated Hummingbird has been feeding here regularly each day since the 24th. Kingbirds have been here for several days, as have the House Wrens (I blame some of those little devils for destroying the five eggs that were doing so great in one of my Bluebird houses). Least Terns and Forster's Terns have been frequently present over the Creek; also several Barn Swallows and several Tree Swallows. The reluctant pair of Osprey on my platform are going through the same stalling game that they practiced last year - lots of mating, little building of nest, whereas several other pair in the area seem to have started incubating several weeks ago. Ours did not start until May 13 last year, yet successfully fledged one chick. At the Jean Shehan Audubon Sactuary in the light rain on the 27th, I found: Ruby-crowned Kinglets (several) Recently fledged House Finches Brown-headed Nuthatch Spotted Sandpiper Buffleheads (five) Cedar Waxwings (flock of about 40) Pine Warblers Common Yellowthroats Meadowlarks (many) Wild Turkeys (two) Marsh Wren Les Roslund Lroslund@bluecrab.org Easton, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
