Still, the mass of warblers I ran into this morning was just terrific. Jordan, maybe these were the birds that passed by you without stopping? From about 11 am to noon near the Kingfisher Overlook parking lot in Seneca Creek State Park (Gaithersburg, Mont Co) I found 17 warbler species!!! Yes, 17, in about an hour. The best part was the fact that I got great looks at all of them (except the Yellow-heard only) and most of them were singing. Lots of sunshine and the birds were very cooperative. Just awesome. Here's the list: HOODED BLUE-WINGED Parula Yellow Magnolia Chestnut-sided Blackburnian Black-throated Green Pine Black-throated Blue Myrtle Prairie Redstart Black-and-white Ovenbird Common Yellowthroat Canada Also: 5 Horned Grebes on the lake, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, empidonax sp., both orioles near the playground. Wonderful morning!
