The warblers are finally starting to pick up. I found 13 species at Lake Artemesia (Berwyn Heights, PG, MD). The Myrtles, who are starting to wind down, were replaced by good numbers of Parulas, Black-throated Blue, and Black-throated Green. There were at least three Chestnut-sided and two Blue-winged. By far the best bird there was a Least Flycatcher. He was along the path toward the airport and was singing so incessantly that even I couldn't walk past without noticing. After that, I checked all the local water looking for Callahan's tern. I did not relocate it. The only tern I could find was a LEAST TERN. (Thanks, Mike). It was fishing and lounging at the pond just east of Hanover Parkway. This is south of Greenbelt Road on the east side of Greenbelt. Not only does this location have easier access than the pond the terns chose last year, it is surrounded by buildings with flat roofs.
