However, I was able to escape today and wander around a bit. Near Constitution Gardens were lots of Baltimore Orioles singing in the elms, Yellow and Yellow-rumped Warblers, and flocks of sparrows beneath the shrubs. Most of the sparrows were White-throated, but there were also Chipping, Savannah, Indigo Buntings, and a Dark-eyed Junco and a Swamp Sparrow. A couple of Black-throated Green Warblers were at the Lincoln Monument end of the Gardens. On the DC Veteran's Memorial side there were lots of White-crowned Sparrows and some Song Sparrows, as well as Brown Thrashers, Eastern Towhees and plenty of Catbirds. More Yellow-rumped Warblers were there, as well as several Veeries, an Ovenbird and a Swainson's Thrush. Not bad for a quick lunchtime walk!
