Stops were made at 39 points, approximately 1/2 mile apart throughout = the North Tract of the refuge. Whips were heard calling at 27 of the 39 stops, with a total count of 58 = Whip-poor-wills calling. An additional three were seen on the roadways while driving between = stops. The North Tract of Patuxent R.R. appears to be a little bit of = Whip-poor-will heaven here on earth.
