But as is usually true at this site, patience and persistence were rewarded. A total of 23 warbler species were recorded by the time we had to leave (unfortunately we missed some of these): Yellow-rumped (ca. 300), Hooded (3); Black-throated Blue (25), Black-throated Green (6), Chestnut- sided (15), Redstart (8), Parula (10), Black-and-White (8), Blackpoll (10), Northern Waterthrush (1), Ovenbird (8), Canada (2), Wormeating (1), Blue- winged (5), Common Yellowthroat (5), Tennessee (1), Nashville (2), Kentucky (1) Blackburnian (1), Magnolia (1), Yellow (2), Bay-breasted (1) and Wilson's (1). Many of these birds were in the maintenance yard and along the woods trails, not at the ridge. Other spp.were Great Crested Flycatcher (3), Acadian FC (2), 3-4 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, ca. 12 Scarlet Tanagers, 1 Baltimore Oriole, 2 Veerys, 2 Swainson's Thrushes, 35 Red-Eyed Vireos, 1 White-eyed Vireo, 5 Eastern Kingbirds and 5 Ruby-crowned Kinglets. There was an apparent push of White-throated Sparrows (compared to yesterday) -- ca. 35. Today was the first day we recorded a fair number of females of BT Blue, BT Green, Black & White and some others. Thrush and flycatcher numbers are still low-- more to come!
