Powells Run Road is north off Marriotsville Road south of Liberty Road and several miles outside (northwest) of Beltway exit 18. The Liberty Dam trailhead is further south off Marriotsville Road, after crossing a quarry and passing a shooting range, accessed by a small paved lane with four mailboxes just before a river crossing. The trail itself begins where the paving ends and the road makes a sharp bend to the right becoming a private driveway; theere is parking available and the trail continues north parallel to the North Branch of the Patapsco River. Liberty Dam itself is about 2 miles north, up the river.
