If you are willing to consider Virginia, there is a location where I had as many as fourteen singing birds on Sunday afternoon. I heard the first call as I pulled into the parking lot. The location is G. Richard Thompson Wildlife Management area along the Fauquier/Warren County line. This is about seventy-five to ninety minutes from Arlington. To get there take 66 west to the Markham exit (exit 18, about 46 miles from the beltway) and go left at the end of the offramp. Go under 66 and take a right on VA 55. In about five miles you will hit the town of Linden. Not a big town, so don't sneeze or you'll drive through it. In Linden, turn right on VA 638. This will wind you up a ridge. When you get to a parking lot that has a sign for G. Richard Thompson Wildlife area you can pull in there and look/listen for them. You can also drive another few hundred yards, the road will turn dirt, and there are a couple large radio towers on the right, and pull into parking lot 6. There is a fire road that leads from both of these parking areas and a couple trails that cross them. If you know the call, you are certain to hear a few. Seeing them is another issue. Also seen Sunday were four Kentuckys, twenty Redstarts, eight Hoodeds, and a few worm-eatings, ovenbirds, and butterbutts. Scarlet Tanagers are pretty easy to hear, as is Acadian Flycatcher, Indigo Bunting, Wood Thrush, Red-eyed Vireo, and a few other things. Cheers...
