The bill united House Resources Committee Chairman Don Young (R-Alaska) and Resources ranking Democrat George Miller (Calif.) while pitting Young against his usual allies, private property rights advocates. Young had called the bill "the most comprehensive conservation and recreation legislation the Congress has considered in decades." Here's how Maryland's Reps voted (Y or N): Republicans- Bartlett, N; Ehrlich, Y; Gilchrest, Y; Morella, Y. Democrats- Cardin, Y; Cummings, Y; Hoyer, N; Wynn, Y. You may wish to thank your Rep. for a positive vote, if applicable. The bill still has to pass the Senate (not scheduled yet). President Clinton has said he'll gladly sign the bill into law. MARYLAND's TEAMING WITH WILDLIFE COALITION hopes to see this all happen in 2000!
