Co.) during lunch, 5/18/00, I observed the following highlights: At the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK nest, there were 2 youngin's with more feathers than fluff now, learning how to spread their wings, plus an adult bringing them food. All along the trail were singing ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS and at one point there were 2 GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHERS together. The most enjoyable highlight was a flock of ~40-50(?) CEDAR WAXWINGS taking baths and preening. About 10 at a time would land in a small pool within the stream and flit their feathers about, then fly up into the trees to smooth then down. While watching this amusing sight, a PILEATED WOODPECKER flew through my field of vision and hung around the area for awhile, getting chased here and there by a Common Grackle. Also catching my attention was a basking Northern Water Snake, which quickly escaped into the stream when it noticed me.
