I hope you don't mind if I report a VA sighting. Yesterday at Fort Smith in Arlington County, I watched about 30 waxwings chow down on berries of the Leatherleaf Mahonia (correct name?) bushes. What a show!! The birds would be 4 or 5 deep on one branch. The blue berries are quite large and I imagine it's the equivalent of one of us swallowing a footbal= l. It was really amusing to watch the birds maneuver the berries in their bills before swallowing. The highest count I got was 5 berries swallowed before a bird flew from the bush. They must have spacious stomachs! Of course I scanned the flock for any possible Bohemians, but none seen. Also seen at the park were Indigo Buntings and an Orchard Oriole.
