Some of the most interesting birds for me were Yellow-throated Warbler an= d Prothonotary Warbler along the C & O Canal between Little Pool and Hancoc= k. Everyone saw the Yellow-throated, and nearly everyone saw the Prothonotar= y, in the middle of the pouring rain. Also had good looks at Lousianna Waterthrush. There were about 4 Yellow-throated males singing there. There is at least one mated pair of Prothonotary Warblers at the west end of Little Pool ( = we saw the male feeding the female there last Sunday). There was also an additional Prothonotary male singing about a mile west of Little Pool This may be about as far west along the Potomac that breeding Prothonotar= y occurs. I know I've found them east of Little Pool, at Big Pool, Ft. Frederick and at Nolan's Ferry. I've looked for them to the west along t= he canal out to just beyond the old cement plant and did not find any. Has anyone found breeding pairs west of Hancock ? The Prothonotary Warblers = at Little Pool have been there the last five years that I know of. Oh, my head got very wet wearing those "trip leader" hats !
