Comments: To: marvadel@egroups.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed I just got a call from Mark Hoffman on his cell phone. He's on his way back from the Eastern Shore and asked me to post this so people can get t= he update ASAP. The White-faced Ibis that Marshall Ilifff found yesterday was relocated again today (5/26/2000) at E.A. Vaughn WMA in Worcester County, MD. Here are the directions: DeLorme Atlas, page 27, B4: From the town of Girdletree, head east on Taylor's Landing Road. After the intersection with Bayview Road, continue about another 1/2 mile and then turn right on the dirt road to enter E.A. Vaugh WMA. (There is a white house on the south side of the road with a pond, near this turn). The entrance is marked by signs indicating "waterfowl habitat". Park by the large tree(s?). To the east, you will see two ponds with a place to walk between them. T= he north pond is open water and there are lots of shorebirds in there (including about 15 Glossy Ibis). The south pond has lots of vegetation = in it, making viewing more difficult. This is where the bird was seen today--in the southwest corner of the pond. Observers were present from 9am until dark, but the bird was only seen between 4:45pm and 5:05pm. This is a first year bird. Mark provides the following cautions: as a first year bird, it does NOT have white feathering around the face like t= he adults. It does have a red iris, pink facial skin, and pink legs. First year Glossy Ibis, have bluish-white lining around the dark facial skin, like the adults and also have dark eyes and legs. Mark saw about 6 first year Glossies around. The bird was seen by Mark Hoffman and Matt Haffner. Ibis-net worked and Greg Miller was turned around from heading to Ocean City and got back in time to see the bird. Paul O'Brien was in Cambridge and did not get to s= ee it. Mark reports that other birds of note included 5 White-rumped Sandpipers and one Gull-billed Tern. Good chasing !!!
