We were searching for GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS and were rewarded with fantastic looks through the scope.(thanks Ralph Cullison!) At least 8-10 singing birds made for a great study both by sight and sound. Another delightful surprise were 3 pairs of BLUE GROSBEAKS(getting harder to find every year). At least 3 singing PRAIRIE WARBLERS and YELLOWS along with COMMON YELLOWTHROATS. A WILLOW FLYCATCHER was busy defending his spot by the sediment pond. Both species of ORIOLES, SCARLET TANAGER and a dozen WOOD THRUSHES along with OVENBIRD. A couple BROWN THRASHERS and flyover CORMORANT too. Everything was remarkably easy to see and we also enjoyed a nice variety of odenates and butterflies.
