The trip left from Lewes Harbor at 4 am and returned a bit after 5 pm. In Maryland waters we had many Wilson's Storm-Petrels, Sooty Shearwaters, and Greater Shearwaters. Additionally we had several Cory's Shearwaters, fair numbers of non-breeding Northern Gannets, a lone subadult Atlantic Puffin (three more were seen in Delaware waters) and, at least for us, the bird of the day, a South Polar Skua seen from very close both in the water and flying. Marshall picked out an out of place swift sp. about 40 mules or so offshore. In Delaware waters, a single Leach's Storm-Petrel was seen, three Atlantic Puffins, and a Bridled Tern, in addition to the usual suspects. I've likely left out a few good species so if Marshall or Jim see this and want to correct me, that's fine. It was great to see so many familiar faces on the trip and meet a few folks from MDOsprey. Andy Ednie and Mary Gustafson did a great job leading the trip and Marshall's sharp eyes picked out some good birds as well. Gosh, now I have to go to work....sigh.
