I'm not plugging B&N, just happened to notice they have it. All proceeds go to MOS of course.< You mean not all birders have a copy? That shouldn't be! I spent some time with mine last night and I do recommend purchasing a copy if you have not done so. The male pheasant that I mentioned at my parents house was soon a victim of a busy road. After weeks of waking up my father at first light it was nailed by a pickup as I dropped by for a visit. Unfortunately the driver stopped to pick it up, thwarting our plans to invite that bird to dinner! It was a beautiful male, not dull like many of those farm raised individuals. "Invisible morph" - I like that term. I searched for years for a Loggerhead and only found those Northerns. My theory was that Loggerheads didn't exist. (my original theory was that shrikes didn't exist until I saw my first Northern). Now I have seen them. Unless they quickly switch phases, they should be in their visible plumage now. As Wilbur said, bring a scope. I saw them in a clump of trees beyond the wellhead.
