This evening the Howard chapter held its first evening walk of the
summer. We had a nice turnout despite the heat with 18 folks showing up.
We were blessed with a wonderful viewing of the BARRED OWL family. Two
adult birds and two downy young. The parents were very unconcerned with
the audience below them. The chicks were curious and watched us as they
spent their time hopping around the branches and preening. They were
able to fly short distances and occasionally made high pitched
whining/hissing noises. We spent most of the "walk" watching the owl
family.
We also had a glorious male BALTIMORE ORIOLE out in full view gleaning
the leaves for insects.
