Thanks for everyone's helpful advice. I found the LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE this afternoon at 5:15pm after 45 minutes of scanning. It was on the ground, easily 1/2 mile away... Fortunately, it looked like it was getting stuff out of a newly mowed hayfield and would fly back up to a fencepost briefly and then back down into the field (where it spent most of its time). I drove 0.1 miles east on Lily Pons Rd [toward Lily Pons] from the intersection of Rt 85 and Lily Pons Rd. From here, look toward the south (you should see a barn and some houses). From this vantage, find the chocolate brown house (beyond the power lines). Just west [right] of the brown house is a partially hidden split-level, brick on bottom and yellow siding on top. From the split-level house, follow the fence line that runs perpendicular to it. This fence runs roughly north (toward you). About half way between the house and the large tree at the end of this fence was where I found the shrike today. I also found 2 Mockingbirds in the same vicinity. A scope is a must. Late afternoon sun was good today for looking this direction. Of course, this bird was so distant, that one could not rule out Northern Shrike...haha...bet I don't hear any takers on *that* one at this time of year!
