One at Violette's had nesting material still, and a vigorously singing male close by. He has been there for weeks, apparently unsuccessfully seeking a mate. One at Riley's had four hatching eggs. I was surprised to find a second clutch of five eggs in the other box. The first clutch of five fledged twelve days ago. I read in The Birders Handbook that Prothonotaries have two broods in "the South." I have not experienced two broods in my boxes, and believe this to be unusual if not rare this far north. Anyone have data to support this belief?
