This morning Fred Shaffer told me that he found two Olive-sided Flycatchers yesterday on his lunch time walk around the pond. Fred had notes that included: pale lower mandible, evident vest, and white patch on lower back. Fred does the walk almost daily with his binoculars and is familiar with the nesting Wood-Pewees and Phoebes. I was a bit jealous, because I needed it for a State Year Bird. When he completed his lunch walk today, he stopped by and told me that one was still there. Binoculars in hand we headed out and found it along the west side of the pond near the spur to the gazebo. The prior late date, according to the Yellow Book, is listed as June 10, but a dotted line indicates a single bird that lingered into July. That makes 280 for me for the year. Good Birding!
