The Dickcissel found by Jim Stasz and Matt Hafner in late May was NOT present, and as the field was plowed it will not likely return. Also I failed to find Jim;s Willow Flycatchers that he found last June in Millington WMA. Those were the lowlights. Highlights were: * minimum of 4 singing male Dickcissels from an alfalfa field at the intersection of Browntown Rd. (Rte. 298) and Morgnec Rd., near Chesterville (DeLorme 60 C3). They were singing from wires and quite conspicuous. My 12th county for Dickcissel. * one singing Vesper Sparrow off Bradford Johnson Rd., 0.4 mi from Rte. 299 (61 B4). My 13th county for Vesper Sparrow. * one Pileated Woodpecker and one Prairie Warbler in Millington WMA (both long awaited close outs!). * At Chesapeake Farms (formerly Remington Farms), the HQ pond had 5 Ruddy Ducks * one Coastal Plain Swamp Sparrow (_nigrescens_) singing at Eastern Neck NWR, 0.4 mi south of the bridge on the east side of the road. * 10+ Common Terns at Eastern Neck NWR (county bird #203 and #5 for the day) as well as the 5 Brown Pelicans seen from the Eastern Neck Visitor's Center across the water in Queen Anne's County. And in Queen Anne's County: * 2 Ruddy Ducks off Chaney's, East End of the Bay Bridge * 4 Surf Scoters (2 ad male, 2 fem) at Kent Narrows, along with the 32 Brown Pelicans, 1 Least Tern, and 10 Common Terns Best, Marshall Iliff miliff@aol.com Annapolis, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
