Halpin" Subject: Olive-sided Flycatcher, Schoolhouse Pond, Upper Marlboro MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Went to the pond this AM, starting from the gazebo area. While approaching the wooded area where the boardwalk meets the asphalt, I thought I heard the 3-noted call of the OSFC. So I waited and listened and could only locate a WE Vireo. This was about 7AM. So I continued around the pond, thinking that I misheard the WE Vireo. At about 8:15 I was in the same location, looking to locate this bird before leaving. Then I definitely heard the quick-three-beers call repeatedly to my right as I approached the asphalt. I could not see the bird; that area is heavily wooded. I hurried to the car to get my recorder only to learn that the batteries were dead! When I returned to the location I could hear the bird faintly, this time to my left. It called for a few minutes then stopped. I hung around for another 30 minutes without hearing the bird again. However, I noticed that there are several tall snags that can be seen from the boardwalk about 20-30 yards before the asphalt begins. Possibly, this is where the bird could have been when I heard it earlier.
