Tonight I saw a couple of small bats chasing insects at 10-30 feet. One called, something between a squawk and a bark. Which species are likely to be seen in the city? A few days ago, I saw a butterfly that I didn't recognize (I only know the very commonest ones. It was about the size and shape of a cabbage white, but yellow -- more lemony than a sulphur, which I think of as yellow-gray or -brown. It had white spots on the wings, each surrounded by a thin black band. At rest the band was not evident.. Any suggestions?
