Too bad Lisa is camping in Virginia. After I dropped her off I high-tailed it back to Anacostia, arriving a mere 75 minutes (about 10:25 am) after Paul's first call. I spent 45 minutes in Kenilworth Park, without seeing or hearing a Western Kingbird. However, I did see a Great Egret, a species I did not expect to see there. After 11 I headed to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens again. No Western Kingbird. At the end of the marsh trail I heard an Indigo Bunting singing a song that had the cadence similar at times to the cadence of the Dickcissel, but not harsh at all. I then headed to Culpeper County Virginia to see the nesting pair of Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. After a trip that resembled early rush hour, I arrived to find the female on the nest and the male perched nearby. Both birds flew around, especially the male. After a couple of hours there I headed home via the Thoroughfare wetlands in northern Prince William County, where from the road I spied the female Ruddy Duck and the breeding-plumaged Horned Grebe that have been reported over the past few days. Thanks Paul Pisano for alerting me and Paul and others. The bird was seen at the last big parking lot in the tops of the trees at the back right corner of the lot near the Jiffy John. On a return call he said that the bird was no longer in sight. That does not mean it isn't nearby. Paul O'Brien Rockville, MD pobrien776@aol.com _____________________________________________________ Sent by Jahoopa Free Email!
