MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Today I attended a reunion for my wife's college alumni which included a visit to the Black Marsh (North Point State Park) and along with Gene Scarpulla, Bob Dixon, and a number of other observers saw at least 19 Brown Pelicans on a concrete pier north of the main waterfront area in the publicly developed portion of the Park. I spoke with park rangers at their office and visitor center, and they said someone told them last week one was seen, and while discussing this Thursday, day before yesterday, one of the rangers looked out the window and saw fully FIFTY of them! My high count today, between 1 and 4:30 pm, was 19, but before that at least three individually flew off to the south and I probably saw at least 25 individual birds. Furthermore, I was told that more fishing nets were out of view from my vantage point closer to the community of Miller Island and probably had more pelicans present there. They really are turning up all over the Bay! When possible, Rick or Matt or someody should be checking the Havre de Grace flats and surrounding areas for pelicans there at the top of the Bay. Anybody checking up the Potomac?
