We started at one of the better places in Queen Anne's County to = look at waterbirds _ the fishing pier at Romancoke. We spent about 45 = minutes there and had at least one Brown Pelican in sight the whole = time. We saw about 20 birds total, some on the water, most flying, some = coming close by the pier. One was chased into the water by an Osprey = when it got too close to a nest. One Common Loon was also seen here. We continued to Talbot County, stopping at Claiborne next. No = pelicans here. The next stop was Lowe's Wharf. Four distant flying = Brown Pelicans were seen from here, also an immature male Ruddy Duck and = the huge colony of Double-crested Cormorants on the Poplar Island = complex. On to Knapps Narrows where a male Long-tailed Duck was the = most interesting find. We finished at Blackwalnut Point where 7 Brown = Pelicans could be seen sitting on the pound nets in the bay.
