From Frederick, Md. take US 15 south into Virginia. Just west of Gainesville and south of I 66, US 15 joins US 29 and the two run together southwest toward Warrenton, Culpeper, Charlottesville. Proceed on the bypass past Warrenton, and continue south. As you are bypassing Culpeper, you will come to the interchange for US 522 and State Route 3, which also run together. Go south, left, over the highway. Stay on US 522 when Rt. 3 diverges toward Fredericksburg. Take 522 south of Culpeper approx 6 or 7 miles. Just before you cross the Rapidan River, turn right onto County Route 647 (Twin Mountains Rd.), and go about a half mile. There is a barbed wire fence on either side of the road and a large power line crossing the road where the flycatcher nest is. If you cross the Rapidan River into Orange County you have gone too far. From Laurel, Baltimore, Columbia, etc. From the Capital Beltway, take I 66 west past Manassas. Exit on US 29 south at the Gainesville (not earlier at Centerville) exit. After about 4 miles US 15 comes in on your right. Continue as above. From Prince George's County and points east, go over the Capitol Beltway on the Wilson Bridge. You can continue to I 66 --or-- you could take I 95 south to Route 3 in Fredericksburg. Take Rt. 3 west toward. Take Rt. 20 west toward Orange. Take Rt. 522 north; just after you cross the Rapidan River and enter Culpeper County take Rt. 647 left, west. I 95 and the initial miles of Rt. 3 can be S L O W.... Always bring a map!
