Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 10:17:32 -0700 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Greg Miller Subject: Re: MD birding highlights 6/22-6/24 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii oops. forgot a couple notable mentions in my last post. had decent views of a king rail (also calling) at truitts landing on friday, as well as a cooperative summer tanager. seaside sparrows were in abundance here, too. a great surprise was the presence of a male ring-necked pheasant friday evening along ocean gateway blvd right in the town of vienna in dorchester county. we ate crabcakes at millies (which btw, were quite good and very inexpensive--$4.25). we drove the streets in town after dinner looking for the pheasant again, but to no avail. one other very confusing bird was a juvenile empidonax flycatcher (prob willow--was silent) in a field along old legislative rd. the bird was almost as plain as a least, but it's beak was fairly wide at the base, and a hint of olive was on the shoulders. it was a weak flier, and its unkempt feathering led me to believe this was a young bird. -greg miller in ohio, a temporarily displaced md birder __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
