MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Folks! On Friday, June 23, Marshall Iliff & I boated to Bodkin Island, a few miles SSW of Kent Narrows. As usual, we did not land but observed from offshore. Here is a list of estimates: Double-crested Cormorant: 1000+ birds in the colony; includes large young Brown Pelican: 215+, about 10% ad. Two NESTS under construction [adults adding nesting material]. One color-banded adult is probably from North Carolina. Great Egret: 5 pairs, some young seen Snowy Egret: ca. 120 pairs, some young seen Little Blue Heron: 5 pairs Cattle Egret: 30 pairs, some young seen Common Tern: 250 adults, nests not counted Herring Gull: about 100 adults, 20+ chicks seen Great Black-backed Gull: 7 pairs, 3 nests @ with large young Fish Crow: 1 [the only passerine on the island] We boated out to the recreational fishing boats anchored south of Kent Pt. A group of 7 pelicans flew down the Bay off to the west and others were seen flying from or toward Bodkin Island. Since the Bay was so calm we motored down to the Poplar Islands in Talbot County. In addition to the 31 pelicans on the poundnets south of the islands we discovered: 1 ad. male White-winged Scoter 5 m. and 4 f. Black Scoter 2 m. and 1 f. Surf Scoter 1 f. Oldsquaw. Willets are apparently nesting on Coaches I. and Jefferson I. Coaches Island also had one White-tailed Deer and an Eastern Box Turtle. Good Birding!
