I remember driving around it once, but could never find a place to pull in. I am writing the MOS site guide for Rachel Carson Park (which is across the street from this site) and would like to know if anyone sees the Red-headed woodpeckers here over the next several months. It has been my experience that some sites are reliable in winter only presumably used by winter migrants that return north to nest. For those looking for a Montgomery County Red-headed woodpecker, they are still present at Black Hill Regional Park - I saw an adult there last thursday evening. From the entrance road turn left just before the first big picnic area, go to the first parking lot on the right (I think it is lot #9), park and walk across the street to a trail that leads into the woods. At the intersection with a cross trail continue down the hill towards the water and scan the many dead standing trees on the near shore. They have been reliable here year-round for many years.
