Thanks to all in MSOsprey who had reported saltmarsh sharp-tailed sparrows there: that was my target bird. I identified at least seven of them (a life species for me!) They were singing among the seaside sparrows, common yellowthroats, etc. Also there were three clapper rails (two heard, one more seen); one bank swallow with the barn swallows; willets, glossy ibis, tricolored and great blue herons, and great and snowy egrets. Two northern harriers were flying together, calling. (I don't remember hearing harriers before!) I drove by the MOS building there. A steel gate barred access to the facility. Does anyone know whether people are permitted to walk about in there when the gate is closed? (Not knowing, I refrained.) I also drove over to Ocean City to try for the roseate tern on Skimmer Island. As Pete Webb suggested, watching the gull and tern chicks was fun, but I found no dark-billed terns. One least tern showed up, though, and two more of them were feeding at the West Ocean City ponds.
