Drove in on River Road checking the wires for swallows, then to Sycamore Landing where I hiked east along the towpath for about 2 miles and returned the same way . Finally checked the impoundments briefly before leaving. One of those interesting days where several differenct activities were going on- start of fall migration, continued breeding activity, and the formation of winter flocks. There were pre-migratory 44 Rough-winged and 2 Barn Swallows on the wires along River Road. Last saturday (6-24) I had 3 rough-wings. One Prairie Warbler and a Chipping Sparrow were singing here. Only heard two Cerulean Warblers singing along the towpath. Probably the easiest one to relocate was east of the Horsepen Hiker-Biker near milepost 26. Wood Thrushes were out in full force- recorded 11 most of which were singing. Also had 4 Northern Parulas singing their primary song and a female feeding a fledgling cowbird. Chickadee and titmice families are starting to gather in small flocks. My best find was a Veery I saw in the same general area I have heard them the past two years on my breeding surveys, but not this year. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
