I was in search of some MD state birds - Sandwich and Roseate Terns reported earlier at Skimmer Island, then hopefully Gill- Billed Tern, Piping Plover and Salt Sharp-Tail Sp further south. First stop was Skimmer Island. Missed both terns (now 0-2 on Sandwich), but it was interesting to see all of the gull tern and skimmer chicks. There was one Common Loon hanging out at the north end of the island. I had never seen a July loon. Also Cattle Egret with young. There was what I believe was a young Black Crowned Night Heron. It was hiding in the shadows on the back side, north end of the island. West Ocean City Pond had at least 4 Least Terns. It is so overgrown, it was hard to see anything else. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
