Vespers 7/2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain 4 Vespers continue to sing here along with 2 Grasshoppers and 2 Bobwhite. The Meadowlark that are usually at this spot had been absent this year until yesterday. Saw one adult with one young bird following it around. Obviously they bred here and somehow I just missed them. Also reappearing was the Kestrel that hangs out at the back end of the powerline. The Kestrels in the area usually disappear in late April or early May and then return at the end of July in large numbers (groups of 4-8). I am not sure of the status of Kestrels in the summer. Do they nest locally? Do they stick close to the nest so that they might not be seen on the roadsides during nesting? Or am I seeing family groups moving south into the area later in the summer?
