Hoodies are still rare breeders in Maryland and could show up anywhere in the summer. Usually they are in the female plumage. Whether these are immatures or adult females I do not know. The timing of the breeding is probably similar to that of Wood Duck. Downy young should be present by early May. I saw another last Sunday in Carroll County.
