Out for a spin this morning (July 9) in Prince Georges County, I dropped by Patuxent River Park (Jug Bay) near the end of Croom Airport Rd (DeLorme 38A1). At 11:00am, I found a LEAST BITTERN from the fishing pier near Jackson Landing (close to the Visitor Center), looking north toward the old brick building on the far shore. Also at Jug Bay was a singing Prothonotary Warbler near the Heron overlook, Hooded Warblers and an Ovenbird in Black Walnut Creek swamp area, a calling Yellow-billed Cuckoo near the Visitor Center, and decent numbers of Scarlet Tanagers through the wooded areas of the park. I also checked Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary (DeLorme 38B1), but it was dismally quiet save a couple Grasshopper Sparrows in the center grassy area. Just outside of Merkle, however, on Fenno Rd I heard a Summer Tanager, an American Redstart, a Northern Parula. I meandered through some of the roads in southeastern P.G. county, too, but found nothing of note. -Greg Miller Hollywood, MD __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
