Frederick Co., July 8th MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Visited the usual hotspots on a beautiful Saturday. The LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE= was on station in the field at the SE corner of the Lilypons Rd./Rt. 85 = intersection. Distantly, N. of the Lilypons Rd., I heard a VESPER SPARRO= W. Lots of other "usual suspects." Along Oland Rd., immediately W. of Rt. 85, GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was up an= d vocalizing. Along Cap Stine Rd., I encountered at least four DICKCISSE= LS. I don't recall anyone reporting positive nesting evidence previously= , but one of my sightings was a fledgling - indistinct eyestripe, streake= d breast, fresh plummage, helter-skelter retrices. You know - they just = grew in, but the youngster doesn't quite have control of them yet. This = was in the weedy field opposite the Miscellaneous Metals factory, at the = corner of Cap Stine and Wincester. Seemed to be the 4000 block. Anybody ever analyze what it is about S. Frederick County? Why so many c= onsistent reports of "good birds?" Is it just a confluence of good habit= ats, or is it akin to the "Patagonia Picnic Table Effect?"
