A customer mentioned today that she had all these "little owls" flying around in her backyard. They had been there for the last 4 nights. Needless to say I became very excited and she graciously invited me over to see if they would appear again. As soon as we sat down on the deck two fuzzy babies appeared at t= he edge of the woods along with a couple adults. We watched them for an hour (on and off) as they flew back and forth through the trees. At one point a parent flew down on the grass right in front of us followed by a fuzzy baby. I have never seen screech owls so close or so well. It was an incredible treat! The owner of the property is willing to share these little guys w= ith other birders so please feel free to come tomorrow night to view them. Meet at 8:15 sharp at the Board of education building (just west on rt 108 from Centennial park- Cedar lane and 108) so we can carpool the short distance to her house.
