It flew over to a concrete barrier that goes in to the water by the boat launch by the tiki bar side of the Sea Breeze, before it flew over to a new pier built at a private residence to the east of the restaurant. The Kelp Gull watched a Great Black-backed Gull tear in to a crab on that pier, then it preened for a while, and settled down on to a piling. The Kelp Gull is showing definite wear to its feathers, with only a small tertial crecent now present (though the distinctive mirror on P 10 is still there). The primary tips are almost worn away, leaving only faint white spots on the folded wings. Otherwise, it looked fine, with its orange orbital and gonys spot, pale yellow iris, and yellow-green legs. Oh, and it was blacker than the GBBG it was near. Feel free to email me if you need directions to the Sandgates area.
