We heard it call and followed him as he flew acros= s the power-line clearing and into the trees on the far side. After crossi= ng the clearing and climbing to the top of the hill; we heard him again on t= he other side. Briefly he came to the edge of the trees and gave us a great look. Soon after a female Tanager (at this point we did know if she was = a Scarlet or Summer) landed in a tree and gave us a few seconds to check he= r out. Her tail was green and her wings were a little darker than her back. 30 minutes later we stood in the woods attempting to find what we thought= was one bird calling over and over. Missed it! After a short time the male returned carrying an insect and calling over and over. He chased a Red-E= yed Vireo away then went to the NEST. 35 minutes passed before the he returned to the nest (more than enough ti= me to get the scope). The female came and sat on the nest and in clear view= of "our" scope.
