This vocalization appears to be associated with disturbance of a bird nea= r it's nest or dependent young. I too have heard this voc type for many ye= ars and the first time I heard it I was very excited that there might be a Henslow's sparrow in the field. It is my impression that once you start = to hear this voc type you may be very close to a nest or dependent young and you should back out the way you came so as to not trample a nest or young. It is really something to hear. It may also be associated with the prese= nce of a predator other than humans. Good Birding!
