Gail and Charlie Vaughn have been long-time fixtures of the MD Ornithological Society and of the Maryland birding scene. One seldom saw one without the other, in the field, at countless tally rallies, and at MOS gatherings. Gail had been fighting a long-term illness over the past few years and she and Charlie went to Alaska this summer to try to put it behind them. After Gail saw her 703rd North American life bird she was taken ill and they cut short their vacation and returned to Salisbury. Gail was admitted to the hospital there and died Saturday, July 22. Fran and I will miss her and I know many long-time members of MOS will also miss her. You may send your messages of condolence to Charlie at his home, 1306 Frederick Avenue, Salisbury, MD 21801.
