Did not find a single shorebird in Caroline Co., though I found the many puddles that Glen Lovelace had directed me to over the phone the other night. Dorchester Co. was a little better, with the Dorchester Co. airport being the best place. I swing by there periodically, ever hopeful of finding Upland Sandpipers (no luck today). There's a lot of flooding in the gras= s between Crop Town Rd. and the runway. There I found: Killdeer--6 Greater Yellowlegs--50 Lesser Yellowlegs--15 Short-billed Dowitcher--1 Blackwater NWR was pretty quiet, with 12 Caspian Terns being all worth mentioning (only one Gr. Yellowlegs seen along the loop). The Sandhill Crane was the only bird in the expansive yard of 1845 Hooperville Rd. today when I went by at about 10:30 a.m. It was on the ridge near the house, and not close to the road, but still a great sight through bins. I'll be on the west coast for a few weeks, and looking forward to my firs= t birding (and pelagics!) there. Hopefully shorebirds will be thick in thi= s area when I return.
