There's a lag between the tide at Port Mahon and the inland marsh areas, due to water travel time through the marsh. According to the Bombay Hook NWR biologist, to find out high/low tide for the mudflats opposite Shearness Pool, use the tide times for Leipsic. Here's how I do it: Go to the NOAA tide prediction site for Western Shore, DE: http://www.co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/tab2ec2b.html#40 The information for "Leipsic, Leipsic River": Station High Low High Low Ref. Station Leipsic, Leipsic River +3 37 +3 50 *0.84 *0.84 Breakwater Harbor Then, get the tide for the reference station, Breakwater Harbor, by clicking on the link and looking at the 2000 tide table for the date you want. Use the Leipsic River offsets to calculate the tide time for the mudflats opposite Shearness Pool. For example, this Saturday, Aug. 5, the Breakwater Harbor hi/low tides: Day Time Ht. Time Ht. Time Ht. Time Ht. 5 Sa 117am H 4.7 726am L 0.0 152pm H 4.6 755pm L 0.4 So the morning low tide this Sat. is at 7:26am + 3:50 = 11:16am If you're going there this Sat, get there early to do the impoundments since the light will be good in the morning, have an early lunch, then work the mudflats. That's what I'd do if I weren't going off to Calvert Cliffs to search for very dead things. :-) cheers, shireen ========================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ========================================================================== ==========================================================================
