Then I returned to the upper parking lot and hiked along RRd to the first bridge beyond Willard Rd.. Came back mostly along Hunting Quarter Rd. where I checked the impoundments. By this time it was raining hard and there was almost no bird activity. Ended up with 28 species with the highlights being a Great Egret flying toward the river on the way in, 3 Prothontary Warblers forgaging in the willows along the N-S dyke(first seen in the buttonbushes) and a Grasshopper Sparrow singing in the field NW of the intersection of Sycamore Landing and River Rds. It was actually about 1/2 betweenSLRd and Willard Rd. Ohter species singing were Carolina Wren, Scarlet Tanager, Eastern Towhee, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Cardinal, and Indigo Bunting. There were only 15 Rough-winged Swallows on the wires, so when I left I drove some back roads looking for more. Found 53 Barn Swallowa and one tree along Sugarland Road near Montevideo and another 9 barns along Montevideo.
