Wind from the SW from 9am-10am, W 10am-11am, SW 11:45am-2pm and 7:30pm-8pm. Raptor Migration Highlight: Cold front with rain yesterday brought more hawks. Good day for early Ospreys. A pair at 12:30pm headed SE and single one at 12:41pm headed W. Other seen, 1 Cooper's Hawk at 10:51am headed E, 1 American Kestrel at 12:46pm headed W, and 1 Turkey Vulture at 12:47pm headed SW. Non-Raptor Migration Highlight: More good flight of Tree Swallows. Single Bank Swallow seen at 10:01am headed SW. Swallows total for this fall is 338 as of today and is closing to tie or break new record tomorrow compare to 364 counted last fall. Butterfly Migration Highlight: First Monarch between 11am-12pm and second Monarch between 7:30pm-8pm and I'm waiting for any good flight. Topography of the Site: - steep ridge about 180-200' above Belair Rd. - about 260' above sea level - It runs northeast to southwest - the first ridge west of the Chesapeake Bay - 12 miles from bay, 5 miles NW of Back River - my hawkwatch is 150 yards west of the ridge - Fairwood Ave runs along side of ridge My hawkwatch is located in my backyard. Most of the hawk flights arrive from the northeast and a few from the north and northeast-east.
