Year county bird!! It all went downhill from there. Sadly, Ron K and myself, who were conferring on a project for a " daily tally board " encountered wanton and senseless vandalism. The plexiglass on the backside of the interpretive sign had been determinedly shattered with the weapon of an uprooted nest box pole, and the " log box " smashed off the side of the structure. We were both sickened by the discovery, and the sharp reality of ( some ) human nature. Attempts had been made on the front side plexiglass covering the artwork, but it is still intact. A ranger appeared on the scene, having been notified by some hikers. There is a description of 2 adolescents and the car they were in, but nothing else , and it is unlikely that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. We have scrapped any further plans for additions to the sign, and will repair the damage out of necessity to protect the sign from water damage, and fervently hope no further assaults be made.
