Had an enjoyable Southern Maryland Audubon trip to Pt Lookout yesterday with half a dozen enthusiastic participants. We missed our targeted Black & Sandwich Terns, but had a good time birding anyway. We had several warbler species including Com Yellowthroat, Pine, Yellow, Black-and-white, Hooded, Am Redstart, and both Northern & Louisiana Waterthrushes *IN THE SAME FIELD OF VIEW*! (this was too cool) We also had one unidentified empid with a large teardrop shaped eyering which was probably a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, but which was never seen from the front. (I'm back after this bird this morning...) Also of note were *84* Cattle Egrets in flight across Rt 5 just north of Cornfield Harbor Rd. Cattle Egrets were also seen off Longneck Rd sitting on the cattle (the herd of cattle was off the right side of Longneck Rd just past the sharp left curve). We also searched for Brown-headed Nuthatches (for a LOOOOONG time) behind the Visitor Center/Museum but without any luck. Finally we piled into one vehicle and drove through the campground until we heard them chattering. We all got decent views and returned to the Museum parking lot only to find Brown-headed Nuthatches there. (the little urchins do this to me all the time ). The Kelp Gull was present at Sandgates Saturday, Aug 12, between 5-6pm. It could be seen with 4 other Great Black-backed Gulls on the pier just northwest (upriver) of the Sea Breeze Restaurant. ...and yes, the crabcackes were good, too... -Greg Miller Hollywood, MD __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
