MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi MD, Jim Paulus called this evening to report an American Avocet in the Potomac at the terminus of the C&O Canal at Cumberland, Allegany Co., MD. After a brief search, Renee and I were able to find the winter-plumaged bird near where Jim had reported it. It was not especially active but did not appear injured or in any difficulty. Mary Twigg and Steve and Cathy Bazarnic were also able to view the bird before dark. Also seen were Great Blue Heron, 1 Great Egret, several Green Herons, 1 Cormorant, 1 Nighthawk and a number of other shorebirds which I hope to get a better look at in the morning. Happy trails ....
